Healing
of the Leper |

A leper came to Christ and kneeling before him said, "If only you will, you can cleanse me". Seeing his faith, Christ cured him, instructing the man in return to make an offering to the priest, as laid down by Mosaic law (Lev. 14). We see the man, covered with sores, kneeling before Christ who is surrounded by the disciples and other onlookers. The rite of the thank-offering is depicted by Botticelli in a fresco in the Sistine chapel. James Hall, Dictionary of Subjects and Symbols in Art, New York: Harper & Row, rev. ed. 1979 |
