Amiens Cathedral, Choir, north flank and base of hemicycle

As we circle around, our view of the lower choir is increasingly blocked by the bulk of the winter chapel built by Viollet-le-Duc. Behind the gable of that chapel you can see the great buttress that marks the base of the turning bays of the hemicycle: it encloses a staircase turret. To the east of this point the outer wall of the choir begins to dissolve into the multiple facetted surfaces of the seven radiating chapels.
