East side of the upper north transept: clerestory windows and flyers
In the clerestory windows we see the new tracery pattern introduced by Renaud de Cormont featuring groups of three lancets topped by a great trefoil. Look at the way the flying buttresses butt against the clerestory. Two different designs are apparent: in the unit further from us the supporting arch of the flyer almost seems to slip off the top of a strip of unarticulated masonry. Closer to us at the same level we see a little aedicule capped by a gable. This new disposition, first used here, continues around the upper choir.
