Amiens Cathedral (Ascent)

East side of the upper south transept, flying buttresses and clerestory windows

Here we see the new openwork flyers as they butt against the upper piers of the clerestory. The junction of the lower arched support of the flyer and the upper wall is treated differently in the two supports. The one closer to us with its little gabled aedicula provided the solution followed throughout the upper choir; the further unit was an experiment.
