South Transept Original Window

South Transept Original Window

Here you see one of the oldest windows in the cathedral--the tracery designed by Robert de Luzarches, c1225. The glass was knocked out c 1290 to create the first nave chapel. You can see that the earliest wooden tie beams intended to consolidate the piers during construction were placed well above the capital--as work progressed it was decided to place them a little lower.
