Amiens Cathedral, Choir from south east
We are moving in a clockwise rotation around the choir. The multi-faceted chapels with their repetitive forms pass before our eyes: the axial chapel of Notre-Dame de la Drapière, followed by Saint James, Saint Nicaise and Saint Eloi. The complex architectural composition results from a combination of radial and concentric geometry generated from a single center point located just behind the high altar of the choir. That point is expressed in the interior of the cathedral by the keystone of the hemicyle which carries an image of the resurrected Christ. In other words, the relics of the various saints in their chapels are organized around the central theme of Christ's resurrection.
To our left a statue of Peter the Hermit, preacher of the First Crusade.
