Paul with his receding hairline and beard occupies the place of honor to Christ's right.  Dean Jean d'Abbeville held Paul in especial honor and established a chapel to the east of the south transept dedicated to the Conversion of Saint Paul who is important in the Amiens sculpture because of his teaching on the Virtues and on Resurrection.  Paul's sword was redone by Caudron.   In the console below: Emperor Nero who had Paul decapitated.

James the Lesser with the fuller's staff with which he was executed.  Unidentifiable figure in console

Thomas, patron saint of the masons originally held a mason's square--transformed into a cross by Caudron.  The only apostle who looks outward.

Matthew holds his Gospel.  His cross probably replaced spear with which he was executed.  Stands on top of devil.

Philip holds stone--but Golden Legend says he was crucified.  Console figure unidentifiable.
