Solomon's Temple

Funerary monument for Canon Jean Wytz who died in 1522 and was buried directly in front: his painted epitaph in central bay of dado is now illegible.

We pass through the four chambers of the Temple: Atrium Tabernaculum Sancta Sanctorum

Atrium

John 2:16: Auferte ista hi(n)c. Nolite face domu(m) patris mei domu(m) n(egotiationis)

Christ cleans the Temple Christ’s banderole. Critique of the secularization of the Church.

Tabernaculum

Healing of the lame man (front left). Burnt offering offered (rear right). Intended to project the power of Amiens Cathedral as pilgrims’ church where healings take place.

Sancta

Exodus 20 and Ezekiel 41: Mimics forms of Christian church. Showbread in the foreground points to Eucharistic bread. Priest censing altar--looks like eucharistic elevation of Host Right forground boy in inserts coals into incense burner

Sanctorum

High priest, Aaron, in the Holy of Holies venerating the Ark of the Covenant. Two angels atop the Ark hold the lid. Note the piscina behind Aaron--just as in a church
