South choir aisle, looking north west into south transept

Here we have entered the outer south aisle of the choir and have turned to look back into the south transept. On the extreme left you can see the window of the middle bay of the west side of the south transept arm. When the nave aisles were expanded outwards with the addition of chapels this window became useless: the glass was knocked out leaving the tracery: behind this is the first nave chapel dedicated to Ste Marguerite, built c.1300. At the bottom of the window you can see the tomb monument of Canon Guillaume aux Coustaux and at the lowest level the black marble plaques recording the names of the masters of the great lay confraternity of Notre-Dame du Puy.
