A castle wall that is undulates with indentations and protrusions. It is designed to allow for the strategic placement of loopholes and thus reduce the number of blind spots beneath a castle wall. Even when the earthen embankments and stone walls are in a straight line, the parapets on top are often built with indentations and protrusions. When the walls zig zags back and forth like a multi-panel folding screen, it is called *byōbuori 屏風折.
