Also *magoshōji 孫障子. A small sliding panel set within a standard size screen *shōji 障子 that slides left and right or up and down to allow light and air into a room. Single or double sliding panels are used and can be opened from both sides of the shōji. Those which slide on thin, grooved head jambs and thresholds, either single or double panels, are called Ōsaka nekoma shōji 大阪猫間障子. Before the late 19th century, no glass was used outside these small sliding panels.
