Also written 地幅石. A long horizontal base stone, sometimes called a sleeper, or a continuous plinth course. It is placed at the base of the podium *danjōzumi 壇上積 upon which temple and some shrine buildings are built. The jifuku-ishi carry the vertical stone panels *hame-ishi 羽目石 and stone struts *tsuka-ishi 束石, that enclose the dirt and rubble mound that forms the core of the podium.
