Gakō binran 画工便覧

Also read Gakō benran. Lit. Handbook on Painters, a late 17th-century history of Japanese painting attributed to the scholar Arai Hakuseki 新井白石 (1656-1725). Compiled ca. 1680, the work includes biographical information on Japanese painters beginning with Prince Shōtoku (574-622, see *Shōtoku Taishi-zō 聖徳太子像). The biographical information in Gakō binran often differs from that in other biographical sources of the late 17th century.
