Also funagatakō 舟形光. Lit. "boat-shaped halo." A halo, *kōhai 光背, with a pointed top, found on Buddhist images. The funagata kōhai encloses a round head nimbus, *zukō 頭光, and a body nimbus, *shinkō 身光. Good examples are found on the central Shaka Nyorai zō 釈迦如来像 (623) in Hōryūji *Kondō 法隆寺金堂, and the Jizō bosatsu zō 地蔵菩薩像 (10th century) in Murōji 室生寺, both in Nara. Funagata kōhai are sometimes decorated with flying apsaras figures, *hiten 飛天.
