Primer on Master Painters of Japan, an early 18th-century biography of painters by Asai Fukyū 浅井不旧. Asai, a native of Kyoto, also compiled the now-lost Honchō gakō inpu 本朝画工印譜 (Seals of Japanese Painters). Dating from the Kyōhō 享保 era (1716-36), Fusō meikō gafu includes the earliest biographical information on a number of artists, such as Sōtatsu 宗達 (?-1643?), who were outside the Kano and Tosa schools, *Kano-ha 狩野派 and *Tosa-ha 土佐派. It is published in Nihon garon taikan 日本画論大観 2: pp. 1189-1256, ed. Sakazaki Tan 坂崎坦.
