Also chūdai-no-son 中台の尊. The principal statue in a group of Buddhist statues. The central image in a triad or group. The other attendant figures are known as *kyōji 脇侍. Examples of a chūson are *Amida 阿弥陀 in *Amida sanzon 阿弥陀三尊 (an Amida triad), *Dainichi 大日 in a mikkyō gobutsu 密教五仏 (a group of five deities presented in Esoteric Buddhism), *Fudō Myōō 不動明王 in a *Godai Myōō 五大明王 (five great Myōō) group, and so on.
