Also called inukuguri 犬潜. The opening between the floor frame of the alcove *tokonoma 床の間, and the bottom edge of the wing wall *sodekabe 袖壁, which extends outward at right angles to the main wall in *shoin 書院 style rooms, or tea ceremony rooms *chashitsu 茶室. It averages about 750-900 mm high. The width depends on the measurement of extension from the main wall. A pillar called *tokobashira 床柱 defines the opening on the main-room side.
