Lit. leg or foot. Also 脚, read ashi or kyaku.
1 The parts that support the main body of a storehouse, kura 蔵 or 倉.
2 The legs of a platform placed on a *kabuki 歌舞伎 stage. There are several basic types that take their names from their heights: shakudaka 尺高, one shaku 尺 (30.3 cm) high; tsuneashi 常足, standard height of 12.12 cm; chūashi 中足, middle height of 63.6 cm; takaashi 高足 usually the highest, at 84.8 cm. Taka-nijū 高二重 refers to any platform exceeding this. Also called okiashi 置足 or sashiashi 差足.
3 The left and right parts of the frog-leg struts *kaerumata 蟇股, that extend to form the legs and feet of the strut. See also *shikyakumon 四脚門, *hakkyakumon 八脚門.
