A variation of *tenmokuyū 天目釉. A yellow-brown or liver-brown glaze often used on straight-sided conical tea bowls known as tenmoku ware *tenmoku jawan 天目茶碗. Tenmokuyū contains iron salts, tetsuen 鉄塩, that oxidize and turn black when fired in a kiln. The lighter brown shades of ameyū are produced when the iron content is low.
