Lit. scattered hail stones. A method of paving *tama-ishijiki 玉石敷, in which various sizes of round stones *tama-ishi 玉石 are imbedded in the ground and joined together using different types of joints. It is favored in garden paths of *sōan 草庵 style gardens and in *roji 露地 or tea gardens. There are four different types of ararekoboshi paving: ōkobore 大零れ, kokobore 小零れ, *ashiwake 葦分け, and chidoriashi 千鳥足.
