A type of smoothing plane. The arashikō ganna is the first smoothing plane used on a piece of timber, planking irregularities and shaving away the rough surfaces. The width of the mouth at the base of the plane is approximately 2 mm, which is relatively wide compared to other smoothing planes, and makes it easier to eject thick shavings.
