Lit. ridge cutting saw; from aze 畔 meaning a ridge between rice fields. An intermediate cutting saw. The azehikinoko is designed to cut midway into a piece of timber. The single blade has two cutting edges, rip (four teeth per centimeter), and crosscut (eight teeth per centimeter), swelling out slightly on each edge to form two end points, instead of a single straight tip. The neck of the saw is exceptionally long, while the blade itself is short and sturdy, measuring about 9 cm.
