Discriminating Jade from Stone Collection, a late 17th-century miscellany on art which ranges from the discussion of tea ceramics to biographies of painters. Published in 1672, the five volumes are compiled randomly by an unknown editor. The two sections of Gakō inshō bengyokushū  画工印章弁玉集 (Discriminating Jade from Stone in Painters and Seals) include painters from *Kōbō Daishi 弘法大師 (774-835) to 17th-century members of the Kano school *Kano-ha 狩野派. Bengyokushū is important because its biographical information often differs from that in better known sources such as the *Honchō gashi 本朝画史. It is published in Sakazaki Tan 坂崎坦, ed., Nihon garon taikan 日本画論大観 (119-1185).
