A pale green pigment *ganryō 顔料, used in Japanese painting *nihonga 日本画. Byakuroku is made by grinding down green malachite pigment *rokushō 緑青; the smaller the particle size, the lighter the color obtained. Paints made from insoluble mineral pigments *iwa-enogu 岩絵具 are mixed with animal glue *nikawa 膠 for use.
