Also written 著到殿 or tōchakuden 到着殿. The designated place for the imperial messenger, chokushi 勅使, and his retainers to register before they visit a shrine. They must inscribe their names, a procedure called rekimei 歴名. The Chakutōden at Kasuga Taisha 春日大社 (1413) in Nara and at Yoshida Jinja 吉田神社 (1864) in Kyoto have open front sand earthen floors covered with gravel.
