The method of arranging stepping stones *tobi-ishi 飛石 in a straight line. If the stones are set in a curved line or arc the arrangement is called *ōmagari 大曲. When some stones are in a straight line and the next group are also in a straight line but with a slightly different axis, the arrangement is called niren'uchi 二連打 (two stone arrangement), sanren'uchi 三連打 (three stone arrangement), ni sanren'uchi 二三連打 (two and three stone arrangement), san yonren'uchi 三四連打 (three and four stone arrangement), depending on the number of stones employed.
