Also sōgyari 僧伽梨 (Sk: sanghati). A robe worn by Buddhist priests. The largest of the three robes *sanne 三衣 traditionally owned by every priest, the daie is made from at least 9 strips of cloth sewn together. It was used for visits and excursions outside the residence, usually to a temple. *Nyorai 如来 statues are always shown wearing this robe. Sometimes the daie is worn with both shoulders covered *tsūken 通肩 and sometimes with the right shoulder exposed *hentan uken 偏袒右肩.
