Also called daikagurabashira 太神楽柱; *kudabashira 管柱 or ōkagura 大神楽. A construction technique that utilizes separate posts on each floor of a timber building, usually a dwelling. The posts are placed, one above the other, separated by horizontal beams which serve two purposes. The undersides of the beams serve as ceiling joists for the first floor while the upper sides serve as floor joists for the second story. A finishing cover is applied to ceilings of the lower story and flooring is laid on the joists for the second story.
