1 A roofing method that uses copper sheets laid in a step-like pattern.

2 A roofing method in which thatch is placed in step-like rows. The ends of the bundles of thatch are visible and left uncut. Examples: Ainu dwellings in Hokkaidō 北海道; in the Nara Basin, Nara-bonchi 奈良盆地; or the Tango Peninsula, Tango-hantō 丹後半島, in Kyoto; and on the Saga Plain, Saga-heiya 佐賀平野, in Saga Prefecture. Also called dandarabuki 段だら葺.
