The framing of opaque sliding screens, *fusuma 襖, and translucent sliding screens, *shōji 障子, whereby the inner vertical pieces are cut so that they overlap when they are closed, thus eliminating any possible gap between the screens. This arrangement requires the use of double tracks. When two screens are to slide shut on a single track, it is necessary to add an extra vertical piece to one of the frames so that it overlaps the other screen and closes the gap. This arrangement is called meshiawasebuchi 召合縁.
