Roofing Tiles
Also called *gatō 瓦当. The circular pendant tiles attached to semi-circular convex eave-end tiles *nokimarugawara 軒丸瓦. In ancient China but very rarely in Japan, there were also semi-circular gatō. The term engatō is only used for the circular pendant, but gatō can be used for either the pendant on a circular tile or on the broad concave tile called *nokihiragawara 軒平瓦.
