Sanskrit: Potalaka. Sometimes written 普陀楽山, 布落迦山; also called Fudaraku 補陀落. Octagonal island-mountain paradise inhabited by *Kannon 観音, traditionally said to be located in the sea to the south of India. Many holy sites associated with Kannon in Japan and China are also called Fudaraku. Faith in the Fudaraku paradise is illustrated in paintings known as Fudaraku raigō-zu 補陀落来迎図, which show Kannon coming to welcome believers to Fudarakusen.
