General Terms
A channel. The part of a bearing block, *masu 斗, that is cut out either as a one-directional channel or in four directions forming a cross for the purpose of receiving bracket arms in two directions (*hijiki 肘木), purlins (*keta 桁), or other such members. The term is used when referring to the depth, either deep or shallow, depending upon the dimensions of the bracket arm or other member which is to be inserted into it. The cut is always made from the top surface of the bearing block down.
