General Terms
The center line of a surface that has been divided equally. The line may run vertically or horizontally. This center point or the line is used as a bench mark from which to measure. An example is the placement of the pull, *hikite 引手, on a *fusuma 襖, an opaque sliding screen. Usually, the top edge of the pull is the center point of the height of the screen. Another example is the coved and coffered ceiling, *oriage gōtenjō 折上格天井. The coffered ceiling up to the curved members, *shirin 支輪, surrounding it is measured in four directions from the center point of the ceiling.
