Lit. flying geese. The poetic name given to a type of zig-zag arrangement of stepping stones *tobi-ishi 飛石. Also called gankōuchi 雁行打 or gankake 雁掛. The stones are usually arranged in sets of two and three placed at right angles. The regular, steady curve of the stones suggests the pattern of geese in flight.
