A structure with a gable roof *kirizuma-zukuri 切妻造, projecting from the front of the lower, earth-floored end of a main house. Found in traditional farmhouses nōka 農家 in Jōetsu 上越 in SW Niigata Prefecture. The ridge of its roof *munagi 棟木 is constructed at right angles to that of the main house.
