A structural system characterized by the creation of a peripheral zone *geya 下屋 about one meter wide around the main structure *jōya 上屋 in vernacular houses *minka 民家 with thatched roofs. The geya is formed by extending the roof down beyond the ends of the main transverse beams *jōyabari 上屋梁.
