A beam running at a right angle to the cantilevers *hanegi 桔木, used in a hidden roof structure noyane kōzō 野屋根構造 (see *noyane 野屋根). It may be roughly circular or square. It is placed on the extended inner ends of the cantilevers, and is attached to struts which are part of the roof framing. The struts and beam are secured by long bolts inserted through both. The beam bears down on the inner end of the cantilever and counteracts its downward thrust.
