Also called han-akarishōji 半明障子. A pair of sliding screens with a lattice frame covered with translucent paper *shōji 障子, filling about half or somewhat over half of the upper part of each screen. The frame is visible through the paper pasted onto it. The shōji are about 1 m high. The lowest part is filled by an opaque panel *fusuma 襖 is less than 1 m in height. However, the proportion of shōji to fusuma parts can vary slightly with the fusuma sometimes extending above the halfway point resulting in less shōji area.
