Fire-cord design. A decoration used on ceramics. While appearing accidental, this is a method created by the special wrapping of rice straw wara 藁 around vessels carefully placed in the firing chamber. The high alkalinity of the rice straw reacts with the iron in the clay to create a red scorch mark. The term hidasuki derives from the scarlet cords used to tie up sleeves when working. The technique is most common in *bizen yaki 備前焼.
