Lit. a flying corner rafter. A flying hip rafter. A short rafter that has the same function as a flying rafter *hien daruki 飛檐垂木, and extends beyond the base or corner hip rafter *jisumigi 地隅木. The flying corner rafter has the same pitch as other flying rafters, which is less steep than corner or ordinary rafters. Like the ordinary rafter lined up on each roof slope, the corner rafter also prevents the base rafter from becoming too long and steep. Its function is not only to beautify, but to allow more light and air to penetrate beneath the corner eaves.
