A coping saw. A saw used to cut curves in wood. The blade is very narrow so as to allow free movement when cutting. It measures about 10 mm at the handle, and gradually narrows to a sharp point at the tip. In order to maintain the blade's strength as it narrows it becomes progressively thicker. This means that there is virtually no frictional resistance when sawing. The coping saw is used to cut openwork *sukashibori 透彫 in a transom window and for other interior decorations.
