Hineri means to twist, turn, back, or roll. Also written 捻斗; also called onisarato 鬼皿斗. A square or rectangular plate block *sarato 皿斗 that appeared at Hōryūji 法隆寺 at the end of 7th-8th century and was occasionally employed thereafter. During the late 16th century a larger, curvilinear style block placed between the top of pillars and large bearing blocks, *daito 大斗, became popular. Its upper part is raised and curved back so that its outermost point is in line with the edge of the bearing block.
