Also called funbari 踏張.



1 The degree of incline of a single pillar or of two pillars spaced wider at the bottom than at the top. Applies to the many types of Shinto gates *torii 鳥居 such as *myōjin torii 明神鳥居, *inari torii 稲荷鳥居, and *sannō torii 山王鳥居. See *korobi 転び, *hirakishōji 開障子, *hirakido 開戸.



2 An entrance with hinged doors. See *hirakido 開戸.



3 The roofing boards of folk dwellings *minka 民家, mainly in Southern Kyūshū 九州.



4 A split board or shingle, usually made of cedar. A building roofed with these materials is also called hiraki in many parts of Japan.
