hiwada-iro 桧皮色

1　A shade of dark brown, lit. cypress-bark color. Old names include juhi-iro 樹皮色, mokujiki 木色, kenda-iro けん陀色. The color name hiwada-iro dates back to the Heian period and is still used today. A hiwada-iro dye was made from indigo *ai 藍 mixed with sappan wood *suō 蘇芳.

2　A term used in weaving for a pale yellow warp combined with a red weft.
