ichi no mon　一の門

The first or main gate of a castle. At Matsuyamajō 松山城 in Ehime Prefecture, the gate plan was square *masugata 桝形, with entrances opposite each other on all four sides. The ichi no mon was in the style of the *kōraimon 高麗門, an ancient gate which also had a side gate *wakido 脇戸. The Ichi no mon of Matsuyamajō was rebuilt between 1824 and 1860.
