Lit. boar's-eye gable pendant. A gable pendant *gegyo 懸魚, decorated with heart-shaped holes. Three heart-shaped holes are often arranged in triangle at the base of the pendant. Sometimes gourd-shaped holes are formed by combining two hearts, one above the other. Some scholars believe the inome gegyo dates back to the Heian period, but the oldest surviving examples, such as the miniature shrine Zushi 厨子 (1300) of Motoyamaji Hondō 本山寺本堂 in Kagawa Prefecture, were made in the Kamakura period.
