ireko-ita 入子板

Also called *wata-ita 綿板. Thin panels of wood inserted between the rails suihei no san 水平の桟 and stiles tategamachi 竪框 of a pivot-hinged door *sangarado 桟唐戸. From the late 16th century, the wood panels were sometimes covered with elaborate carving; painting them also became popular.
