Purlins, *keta 桁, placed along the tops of pillars surrounding the core, *moya 母屋, of a temple building. They are the inner purlins as compared to the outer wall purlins, kawageta 側桁, set along and placed lengthwise on the tops of the row of exterior pillars of the peripheral area of a building *hisashi 廂. Where bracket complexes are placed on the pillars, and the inner purlins and outer purlins are set in them, the terms irikawageta and kawageta are still used.
