Also kanokodate 鹿の子建 and ishitsuki 石付. A technique used at a folk dwelling to attach a pillar to a base stone *tama-ishi 玉石. A tenon cut into the bottom of the pillar which then fits into a hole hewed from the stone. An alternative method of pillar erection is called *hottate 掘立, whereby the pillar is sunk directly into the ground.
